The story from our last participation:
San Diego Botanical Gardens Request – 250 Mushrooms
San Diego Woodturners Response – 443 Mushrooms
It is with great pleasure that this article reflect how the San Diego Woodturners responded to the request from our friends at the San Diego Botanical Gardens. This is the second time that we have turned mushrooms for a children’s event at the gardens. Turning mushrooms is fun and as we did last time we rose to the occasion and actually exceeded the requested amount. The request was for 250 mushrooms and we turned 443 mushrooms. Many of our members and many of our TAV Veterans participated in the effort. Great job!!!
The San Diego Botanical Gardens has been a partner of ours for many years. We often are the recipient of wood from a fallen tree. We also demonstrate at the gardens a couple of times each year for an event they are hosting. These are great community outreach opportunities and much appreciated by our friends. We also benefit by generating funding for TAV at these events.
We hope to nurture what has been a great relationship with another non-profit. We also enjoy turning for efforts that benefit children in the community. A special thank you to club members for coming through again! It is a busy time of the year for us as we get ready for the Del Mar Fair. Tops and pens and now mushrooms occupied our time over the past several months. The focus on mushrooms happened over the past 3-4 weeks.
The mushrooms will be delivered to the San Diego Botanical Gardens during the 1st week of June. Staff at the gardens will be elated and we can feel good about what we did. More importantly, our effort will put smiles on the faces of many children!
